Route to Maasbracht
Grensmaas Tour
Back to overviewImmediately after departure from Maasbracht we sail via the Grensmaas towards Maaseik in Belgium. The Grensmaas forms a natural barrier between the Netherlands and Belgium from Wessem to Maastricht. We sail all the way to the point where the Maas is navigable for commercial and recreational navigation! Near this point is the Belgian recreational lake of Heerenlaak. During the return trip you will be introduced to another Belgian recreational lake: the Spaanjerd. There are still active dredgers on this lake, which extract sand and gravel from the bottom.
The Grensmaas is, above all, a special nature and recreation area. The bicycle ferry at Ohé and Laak, the water sports enthusiasts on the lakes, but also the wild animals on the banks - such as horses and cattle - are proof of this. The view of the Koningsteen nature reserve from the Grensmaas is also breathtaking; the gnawed trees on the banks also testify to the presence of beavers!
The route takes a total of 3.5 hours.
